Your first visit

What to expect.

Seven unhurried steps, from your forms to a plan you understand. You’re in charge at every one of them.

Monterey Bay · Aptos, California

  1. Before you arrive

    Step 1: Patient forms

Fill in your new patient forms online before your visit (or in the office when you arrive). They give us your health history and the story of what’s going on now. Open the forms (our secure patient portal)

  2. A conversation first

    Step 2: Consultation

You’ll sit down with Dr. Gray to talk about your health, your symptoms, your concerns and your options. The point is for him to learn about you, your condition and what you hope to get back to, so he can tell you honestly how chiropractic can help.

  3. Hands-on

    Step 3: Examination

A complete chiropractic examination: reflexes and flexibility, plus standard neurological, orthopedic, postural and physical tests. Nothing is done without your consent.

  4. Only if needed

    Step 4: X-ray studies

Some conditions call for X-rays, which can show misalignment and degeneration and help shape the best plan for you. If you have a serious spinal condition, please tell us first.

  5. Clear answers

    Step 5: Report of findings

Once everything is gathered, Dr. Gray walks you through what he found and answers the real questions: how we can help, how often you should come in, and what it will cost. If you need care from another provider, we’ll tell you.

  6. If you’re ready

    Step 6: Your first treatment

You’ll have the option of a first treatment that day: spinal adjustments, soft tissue massage and/or physical therapy. Say so any time something doesn’t feel right; treatment should be a conversation.

  7. Between visits

    Step 7: Your wellness plan

Before you leave: ice or heat if you’ve been in pain, stretches to try, positions and activities to avoid for now. If you’d like, help with the habits that keep your spine happy: exercise, diet, rest and a positive frame of mind.

A little nervous?

Take a breath with the bay.

Lots of people feel a little anxious before a first visit. A minute of slow breathing helps. Breathe in as the circle grows, out as it settles.

Five slow breaths: in for four, out for six.
